Friends of Opera Inc. is a not-for-profit incorporated society, based on the Gold Coast of Queensland. Our monthly meetings are at the Dendy Cinema, Nerang Street Southport.
The new shopping complex which houses the Dendy has easy access from the Light Rail which stops right outside the complex in Nerang Street. Car parking areas can be approached from both Queen and Nerang Steets. We gather at 10.00am for seating by 10.30am to screen a DVD of the opera of the month. Our operas feature productions from most of the opera houses around the world. Prior to the screening, there is a short talk about the opera, the composer and principal singers. At interval we adjourn to the separated foyer area where tea coffee and biscuits are supplied. You may bring your own lunch if you wish. A varied programme is announced for each year with the aim of entertainment and education. Individual membership is $30 per calendar year or $50 per couple. Members receive printed notes by post every month with detailed information about the coming opera and are able to borrow DVDs from our extensive library. Door charges apply for each meeting, $20 each for members and $25 each for non-members and guests. |
